Youth

The Youth Engagement Committee is a newly reinvigorated group charged with engaging the youngest members of our Congregational Family. With a mission “To improve the overall experience and engagement of Temple Youth, including toddlers through high school age members,” the committee meets monthly to plan events for different age groups. Our members include: Julie Babione, Donna Cohen, Beth Deliver, Jen Finkelstein, Stacey Freedman, Lauren Gerofsky, Robert Gerofsky, Stef Heller, Holli Viau, and Abby Wilson.

As part of our efforts, we have created Mini-SSTY, a new group for those in kindergarten through fifth grade (subdivided K-2 and 3-5). The goal of mini-SSTY is to help kids in this age range connect with their peers and build relationships with families in similar stages of life. Two successful pizza parties have been held this school year with more fun events planned for the near future. Mini-SSTY complements the synagogue’s Junior SSTY (also known as Junior Youth Group) for 6th-8th graders and SSTY (Shaarai Shomayim Temple Youth) for our high schoolers.

A“Parent and Me”class has also been established creating opportunities for parents to learn alongside their children, aged infant to four years old. Music, crafts, creative play and snack abound as we have fun and learn together. The themes for the class center around holidays and how to extend them into the home for even the very young.

There’s so much more we can do, too, but we need your help!

What can you do?

Join us! Our committee is looking for additional people who love to make things happen

Support us! Help us spread the word, come to an event, bring your friends, encourage others to participate!

Let’s together show our youth they matter and we want them to be active members of our Shaarai Community!
