SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
November 9, 2016
I am writing on behalf of the Board of Trustees to update you regarding our plan to hire an Executive Director. The addition of an Executive Director is critical not only to our future growth, but also to our continuing to do everything we do today. It was included in the Strategic Plan os one of our first, and most important goals. We presented the Strategic Plan at the Annual Meeting in June and then iat several other meetings following. The goal was met with overwhelming support by the congregation in those meetings, as well as in other discussions.
But... We are at a point where we need to reassess the congregation's financial commitment to that goal. What the congregation is supporting in theory and what we are willing to support financially are not in alignment andm, therefore, we need to put his ogle on hold. When we have a new timeline for implementing this goal of the Strategic Plan, we will let you know.
I am happy to answer any questions you might have, but email, phone, or in person.
Debi Oxenberg, President
Temple Board President
I was born and grew up in Flint, Michigan, the oldest of six children in a Conservative Synagogue. I've always been drawn to volunteerism and helping others. If you ask my family, they'll tell you I'd like to "Save the World" and that may be right.
I have been a nurse for 34 years, the majority spent in Oncology Nursing. I am now the Oncology Research Director for WellSpan Health. I've traveled multiple times to Honduras to bring medical care to the remote mountain villages and traveled to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to help on the Suicide Hotline.
We moved to Lancaster in 1988 where we raised our daughter, Stefanie Heller, and are thrilled that she, our son-in-law, and two granddaughters call this home as well.
I'm so excited to have the opportunity to fulfill the role of President of this amazing congregation and community. Congregation Shaarai Shomayim is a wonderful community that provides warmth, education, mentoring, nurturing, learning, caring, and spirituality. We care about the community of Lancaster as well as the world we live in. I hope you are as excited as I am to travel this path.
I look forward to meeting and talking to every one of you. Please don't be shy- email me or call me whenever you have questions, concerns, or just want to say "Hi."
