Membership
Shaarai Shomayim is a growing and vibrant Reform congregation of over 330 families. We have expanded our facilities to match our growth, commissioned and dedicated a new Torah, and continue to strive to help our members lead meaningful Jewish lives in the context of our modern world. We are truly a tapestry of Jewish tradition and dynamic Reform Judaism -- a tapestry woven with the strength of Torah, the richness of history and the warmth of a Temple family.
The story of Congregation Shaarai Shomayim is told in the cornerstone of our building. We're not referring to the dates, although we are obviously proud of our history. We are speaking of the Hebrew inscription "Kuf-Kuf." It is an abbreviation for the words "Kehillah Kedoshah", meaning "Sacred Community". To be just that is our constant goal for our congregation.
So what makes a community sacred? It is a place where Judaism is made relevant, services are moving, programs are engaging, and there is a sense of family in all we do. From pre-schoolers to senior citizens, we live and grow together Jewishly.
We want to invite you personally to see what Shaarai Shomayim is all about. Attend our services, visit our Religious School, and feel free to contact us for any information that would be helpful to you before joining our congregation.
New members like you are encouraged to be involved in everything going on at Shaarai Shomayim. Serve on a committee or two, get involved in our auxiliaries, teach in our religious school, engage in adult study, participate in social action projects to help us fulfill our tradition of prophetic Judaism, attend Shabbat and holiday services.
It is virtually impossible to experience the fullness of Jewish life without being a part of a larger community. Joining our congregation will provide the fullness, the meaning, and the richness of our tradition in a Reform setting. We hope you will make Shaarai Shomayim your Kehillah Kedoshah, so that we can grow together. We look forward to meeting you, and getting to know you and your family.
