Welcome to the Music area of our website!
Music is a vital part of the life of Shaarai Shomayim. For people who like to listen to or participate in music, we have many opportunities.
Our Cantorial Soloist, Sara Eiser, leads us in song on Shabbat and holidays. Our services are always rich with the sound and soul of music, whether it be through our congregants, young and old, chanting Torah or offering their musical talents.
Chavrai Zamir is our volunteer choir made up of congregants who love to express their Judaism through singing. They provide music for family services, Bar/Bat Mitzvah services, and other special events. Membership is open to any congregant who likes to sing.
An outgrowth of Chavrai Zamir has been our Klezmer Band, ‘The Chopped Liver River Band,‘ that enjoys adding its own touch to Simchat Torah and other special events. They have also been privileged to perform at the Longwood Gardens holiday concert series and other community events. In 2005, they produced their first CD, ‘A Shmear of Chopped Liver,‘ which can be purchased by contacting the Temple Office.
Chavrai Hashir, our youth choir, is the most recent addition to the musical offerings at Shaarai. Membership is open to any student in grades 4-8 enrolled in our religious school.
The Miller Music Festival is an annual event that began in 1991 by David and Rosanne Selfon in memory of her parents. Their generous endowment provides for a free concert that highlights Jewish music performed by nationally known musicians.
